Austin Powers started off his sailing career sailing with his parents at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. As he grew his participation in the FBYC junior race program took him all the way to Christoper Newport Universitiy’s Varsity Sailing Team, becoming Captain his senior year of school. Austin joined Ullman Sails Virginia as a summer intern while attending Christopher Newport University. After graduating in 2017, Austin’s internship turned into a full-time sail repair specialist, a sail sales guy and apprentice sail designer under Ullman Sails International’s Advanced Sail Designer, Bruce Hollis. While Austin has been repairing, selling and designing sails, he has continued to race at Fishing Bay Yacht Club, race one-design dinghies, sail his foiling Waszp sailboat and expand his skill set into ocean racing. In 2017 Austin received the Robert Purrington Award for the Mid-Atlantic Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association. This award is given to recognize a graduating senior from the conference who has made outstanding contributions to college sailing.
Ocean races include:
- 2017 Annapolis to Newport Race
- 2018 Newport to Bermuda Race
