Jerry Latell, owner of Ullman Sails Chesapeake, has been a sailmaker for 20 years. After graduate school, Jerry walked into a local loft to inquire about new sails for his San Juan 24. He spoke with the owner, became immediately interested in what they were doing, was offered a job and unexpectedly began a new career.
Jerry purchased the loft in Deltaville, Virginia in 2005. Since then, Jerry has put together a staff able to construct sails using both modern and traditional sail making techniques for racing and cruising sails. Projects that have been most exciting while using traditional sail making techniques include the replica Jamestown Virginia ship and the US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle. While spending time with his family and cruising to new destinations are favorites for Jerry, he is truly at home on a race course, regularly competing in offshore racing and local buoy/distance racing on the Chesapeake Bay.
